I have so many memories that will always make me smile when I think of you, but here are just a few…..
My earliest memories trips to London shopping, our family Christmas gatherings, our family summer barbeques and travelling to London on the train to work, I still can’t believe we sat in a smoking carriage, but we would, you did love a fag back then!!
When we were really young you took David and I to London shopping, we visited one of the London Jewellers and I always remembering you asking ‘how much for cash’, it did make me laugh, even more so when they agreed a cheaper price, I remember then thinking how cool is my Uncle. You were also to me, a really lovely, kind and generous Uncle.
I worked around the corner from your offices back in the late 80’s and we would meet up, one day you took me to your bank and said to me ‘the Queen banks in here’ - I think I actually thought she might pop in!!
I was always so proud of your work and would tell anyone that would listen of how you designed the Harris Carpets logo. I loved that we both worked in publishing and could discuss this line of business with each other. You even worked with old colleagues of mine, one recently on hearing of your passing, referred to you as a ‘Legend’, I thought yeah, what a great title.
Our family summer barbeques at Pete and Janets, the Christmas family gatherings were so much fun, you always had a Bud or Canadian beer in your hand and you were always on ‘tiddly top form’, really making me laugh. I know I speak on behalf of all the family of how lucky we were to be able to get together so often.
The years have passed so quickly and things do change but our lovely few days, 2 years ago at Hoath House, to celebrate Lynn & Simons anniversary really brought us all back together and it was lovely to see you happy and smiling.
David and I have always loved a visit to Janet & Pete’s from when we were little and even earlier this year in May we came to see you all, the weather was so nice we were able to have a Barbeque.
We spoke quite a bit after and I am glad I told you, that you were, and will always be my favourite moody Uncle Pete, and I think, you quite liked that.
Will miss you Uncle Pete, sleep tight
Love Dawn x
